Tristram Shandy Trailer

The trailer for the film adaptation of Tristram Shandy, the 18th century book by Lawrence Sterne famously known as the first post-modern novel and for exhibiting egregious elements of metafiction. Making the film itself meta is the obvious approach, but that's always dangerous territory.

I saw a preview for this before Syriana I think it was. It actually looked like a good time. Dude directed 24 hour party people, right? I enjoyed that movie, and he (I thought) successfully worked in quite a bit of meta.

However, I just noted on IMDB that he also directed 9 Songs (is that really true?). I refuse to see that- lovely eroticism on the silver screen is not in itself a negative aspiration, but please don't give it a mediocre indie-rock soundtrack. Franz Ferdinand does not turn me on, and I don't like to feel like I'm being marketed to.

Steve Coogan makes me laugh, so I might just see this. His Alan Patridge character is hilarious.
