It's not about the closet

Paramount has agreed not to show the Scientology/Cruise episode of South Park again, after Cruise lodged a complaint. What's nearsighted about this article is that it presumes Cruise is upset about the "come out of the closet" aspect of the episode, when I'm pretty sure he's upset about the staid mockery of his chosen religion.

first, the article calls Nicole Kidman a "fellow Scientologist," but I'm reasonably sure she's not one. Or at least, not any more.

also, i like the idea that he "saw the episode and did not like it."

also, i hate the fact that apparantly, that fucking matters.

also, why is south park even still on? don't they realize the joke wore off after the first 4 episodes, 8 years ago?

Kidman is most definitely no longer a Scientologist, although she was once.

Yes, South Park isn't reliably funny in any way, but it's the only show that has the balls to unsubtly mock Scientology.

I don't know, Tom Cruise has been pretty lawsuit-happy when it comes to claiming he's not gay in the past as evidenced by this article with an amusing picture of a gay porn star.

i'm sure it's a combo of both his desire for revenge against anyone mocking scientology and his desire for no one to ever, ever, EVER know that he's gay.

the article doesn't call kidman a fellow scientologist. it calls john travolta a fellow scientologist

I just think Tom Cruise is obviously a little pussy who can't take a joke. It's pretty fucked up that he can stop them from airing the episode. I mean, what if Barbara Streisand and Brian Boitano had sued? There wouldn't even be a South Park. I was also going to say I like South Park until I read the above discussion of Futurama vs. The Simpsons and realized you are all a bunch of huge dorks who could undoubtably "prove" me wrong.
