Annie Proulx on the Oscars

Although I feel BM should have won, I'm going to have to play it as it lays.

Not that I disagree with a lot of what she said, but talk about a sore loser. I have no sympathy.

Lorelei | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 4:32pm

whatever happened to "honor to be nominated"? and how many times has she gone for a best picture, anyway? you never here scorcese bitch. oh, and trying to respond to your own criticism ahead of time to deflate it, well, it may have worked for for eminem in 8 mile, but bitch shut your trap before i shut it for you.

i don't know why that made me so angry.

You're all misogynists, I've decided.

crazymonk | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 6:58pm

Wow, she made a Free Silver joke... she's totally out there.

Snakes on a Blog | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 7:38pm

I call sour grapes. I am not sure if crazymonk is joking or note, but her being female has nothing to do with this leaving a sour taste in my mouth. She calls Crash Trash, which is not only lame, but not true. Crazymonk, you didn't like the movie. Would you actually call it trash? So you think it's didatic, overt, whatever, but trash. Come on. I am finding that the more people are trashing this film the more I like it.

"I am finding that the more people are trashing this film the more I like it."

I use the same method for chosing my political affiliations.

Snakes on a Blog | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 8:00pm

Nah, it's not trash. I actually think it's a good movie for young adolescents.

crazymonk | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 8:08pm

Based simply on the sentiments of the article, since I have seen niether BBM or C, I think the woman needs to get off her high horse. If she thinks so little of the Academy, and believes them to be so outdated and out of touch, then why should she be so bothered that the film didn't win? She betrays her "Hollywood is lame" attitude by the fact that she obviously cares far to much about what they thought about her and her movie. She is therefore as pathetic as the folk she condescends to and name calls.

The New Yorker | Mon, 03/13/2006 - 8:34pm

I haven't seen either movie, but I've seen very bad movies and very good movies, and I can't come up with any pair of titles to substitute in that would make the article's pissiness seem justified.

On the other hand, whatevs.

On the third hand, what was the point of the opening? Is homophobia the trump card of cultural 'relevance' now?

I haven't given a shit about the Oscars since that time the Academy picked Ginger Spice in Spice World over Liam Neeson's performance in Schindler's List. What were they thinking?

it never pays to be the person to write the article she wrote. also, what exactly did she have to do with the movie? she wrote the story and had nothing to do with the screenplay, direction, acting, music, etc etc etc. count your blessings -- and your money.

In case Annie reads this, I just want to add another person who agrees with the comments above. All in all, I am not sure that there are too many people who would find her article appropriate.
