"Up, Simba," the comic strip

A guy named Mike Russell has adapted a small part of David Foster Wallace's essay "Up, Simba" as a comic strip The original essay is about Wallace spending a week on John McCain's "Straight Talk Express" bus tour in 2000. It'd be cool to see more of this kind of adaptation from Russell, even if Wallace's verbiage and syntax loses a dimension in this medium. (thx, bill s.)

You know, I often get frustrated with Wallace's inability to self-edit. But seeing it in cartoon form, where lots of the asides are interpreted visually and the whole thing is more concise, makes me realize that the asides are the juicy, tasty bits.

I love what Mike Russell did with the DFW essay. And I like the art on his own stuff, but man, his pacing is awfully wooden. Reading the Cirque du Soleil strip felt like hitting one of those web pages where they never use carriage returns.
