iPhone and Apple TV

Apple announces two new big gadgets: the iPhone and Apple TV. I need to become closer friends to some early adopters.

Bah, the iPhone had me until they said "$600 WITH a TWO year contract with Cingular." I've made a mini-vow to myself never to sign a two year cellular contract and I hated dealing with AT&T back when I had their service. It's unclear if I can even hook it up to my T-Mobile account, they didn't specify if they'd allow unlocking. So, assuming they would even agree to sell it without a contract it would be somewhere in the $800/$900 range based on how cellular companies discount phones.

Also, I'm generally not excited about touch screens as input devices... entering text and phone numbers is much easier with tactile assistance.

It's too much.

I was hoping for two versions of the phone, one that was ONLY an iPod and a phone and one that had all that other stuff so I could get the cheap one.

isn't your brother an early adapter? according to what i've read, it's for cingular only. and i agree about touch screens -- ipods got better when they reintroduced the mechanical click wheel -- i could never turn my old one off when i was wearing gloves.
