Heh

"The Internet and the rise of awwa, meh, feh, and heh." Example from Donnie Darko:

Emily: Mom said the school is closed today because it's flooded, and there's feces everywhere!

Susie: What are feces?

Emily: Baby mice.

Susie: Awwa.

Heh.

i call bullshit on awwa. it's just aw said with a valley girl twang. it is not a new meme. the "awwwwww" in darko is just that, an age-old, sticky-sweet, heart-warmed "aw," just as in the clip from the O.C. (which is the most I've ever seen of the O.C., and very glad for after seeing those painful 10 seconds).

I'm not sure I agree. It's a noticeably different inflection of tonality that I don't think can be merely deemed "valley girl." I heard lots of valley girl talk in the 90's, but I don't recall hearing "awwa" during that decade.

this is officially the least interesting thing you have ever blogged about.

and you've blogged about a lot of really uninteresting things.

I had actually never heard of "awwa" before, despite many years in the trenches of online conversation AND Southern California. I guess this means I'm officially old. That, or Lee's right, but the person who wrote that article was clearly into serious linguistics.

I have to agree with jbg. Feh.
