Pictures of the Grand Canyon skywalk

I wonder how long it'll be before someone commits suicide by leaping from the skywalk. It's really only a matter of time.

$25 to commit suicide? That's a rip off.

I know. You could totally do it for free at the Golden Gate Bridge.

Plus they'd probably sue your estate for your corpse reducing the value of their view. All in all, an expensive venture.

"Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the moon, was one of the first to walk out onto the structure."

Do you think he was...the second?

Jon May | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 12:42pm

Second comes right after first. Is this thing fake like the moon landing?

New York Anthony | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 3:02pm

On second thought, I think $25 is a small price to pay for assured success. Nothing is more embarrassing than a botched attempt at self-defenestration.

Alina | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 4:45pm

A botched attempt at throwing yourself out a window?

The Rodenator | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 6:07pm

it could be considered a frameless horizontal sort of a window

Jon May | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 7:59pm

It's like that scene at the end of Gung Ho where Michael Keaton is trying to convince a Japanese businessman that a car has a windshield when in fact it doesn't have one. He's wiping the pretend windshield with a rag and then cleans off one particular spot and makes a squeaky noise to REALLY convince the businessman. The Japanese man is nonplussed when he then places his hand directly through the space where the windshield should be.

It could be like that in reverse where you're planning on leaping through an open window only to discover, mid-leap, that it is in fact just a very clean window and rather than leaping through it you simply leap into it. Hard.

That sucks.

Ingen Angiven | Wed, 03/21/2007 - 8:23pm

I supppose I have developed a more expansive definition of what constitutes a window than most folks.

Alina | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 8:15am

Ingen,
your last paragraph reminds me very much of the hudsucker proxy.

Jon May | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 11:04am

ditto

liam | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 7:17pm

tritto

New York Anthony | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 7:21pm

I've never seen the Hudsucker Proxy. Which makes me a bad person.

Ingen Angiven | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 7:29pm

And your friends, they call you jerk.

New York Anthony | Thu, 03/22/2007 - 8:00pm

Actually my husband and I live in Arizona and we took a trip to the Skywalk last week. We went on it and it is very real and a little scary. As you are on it you can feel it wave a little bit with all the movement on it.

By the way it isn't $25 like they sort of say.....it is $163 for two people.

I'm with Alina. Looking at the pictures and seeing how you're able to freely lean over the side, that's a suicide invite simply waiting to be accepted. Sooner or later.
