Based on how many of you have emailed me about David Foster Wallace's recent death by his own hand, I perhaps don't need to remind you all of how important his writing has been in my adult life. (But you can see how much I've written about him on this site.) I may have to sit with this news for a few more days before I can say more intelligently.

What a loss. Talking with Jesse about this some, I can't help but feel that DFW stared pretty hard into the abyss. I don't know to what extent that served as a factor in his taking his own life, and it's disrespectful to even speculate about it. But it's a shame that a man with so much to say couldn't find reason to spend more years on Earth sharing it.

So sad.
Thank you for compiling everything I've wanted to read and re-read since I heard the awful news, I'll be busy clicking through for the next few hours.
