I have a patent

I have a patent. Number 7,164,779. The application was filed over five years ago, so I had almost forgotten about it, but I looked it up on a whim this morning. Check that off the list.

Update: More information about the invention, in less technical language. I also have a VHS tape of a demonstration somewhere that I should dig up and put on YouTube.

my advisor just got his first patent a few months ago. It had a gold seal and everything on it and he has it framed. You should contact the company and see if they'll give you a copy.

did they try to market this as "invisiview"? It seems to have failed, and a current technology called "invisiview" is differently cool: watch tv in the air, all star wars style.

Congratulations!

From the patent text: "One manufacturer, InvisiView Technologies, Inc., Boca Raton, Fla., removes the front polarizer from a LCD type of device so the displayed image is no longer visible. If the display is viewed through polarized lenses, it becomes visible. This is a partial solution because anyone wearing consumer-grade polarized sunglasses can defeat the system."

Of course, our system can be defeated as well with variable frequency lenses, which led to another patent for security-enhanced displays. (I wasn't on that one.)

As far as I know, Mitsubishi Electric has not sold this product in any way.

Can I borrow some money?

Ingen Angiven | Fri, 05/25/2007 - 6:06am

Eh, I think I signed away all my intellectual property to Mitsubishi Electric while I was there.

The statement of claims makes for electrifying reading.

So you just invented secret decoder glasses? That's neat and all, but I'm holding out for the X-Ray specs.

nach | Mon, 05/28/2007 - 3:34pm

No, it was filed in August, 2001 and finally accepted in January, 2007.
