I was astounded by that interview when I saw it last night as well. They have NO social services? No police, no fire department, no schools? What function does the mayor actually serve? What does the city do?
stewart's great when he's angry. i wish there could be more confrontation of schmidt et. al. about this insulting tactic.
While I think that segment was unfair (e.g. they can't possibly all be drunks with x-rated tattoos), I also loved it. I'm a little scared of how into the "culture war" I am getting.
Where is Stewart pissed? I am so confused.
through the whole show, and especially at the end.
I only watched the one clip. Why do people agree to do interviews with the Daily Show? I can understand wanting to be a good sport, but the Mayor didn't come across too well.
the whole show deserves a watch -- you can skip the interview, but stay for the closing clip. If the daily show asked me for an interview I would have a hard time saying no. And if you're a political figure you might look worse for saying no, and they'll do something like have john oliver run after you.
i personally would love to see jon may on the daily show. watch out for their skillful editing! maybe you could run after john oliver?
but seriously, the mayor really did come off as wholly unprepared for VPOTUS. signing checks and staff meetings? it seems like a glorified office manager position. but maybe that's unfair to office managers....
On further reflection, I think that article you posted months ago (by Andrew Sullivan maybe) turned out to be right about this election re-fighting the sixties.
