This Wednesday, the New York Times website will finally discontinue TimeSelect, the paywall behind which they've been putting much of their content. Death to outdated subscription models!

By the way, it's odd that the linked story is Reuters and not NYTimes.

MoDo will be silenced no more!
This is a net negative for me, unfortunately. As a student I got TimesSelect for free, and apparently the archives between 1923 and 1986 or something like that are not going to be free. Oh well.

I had assumed that those archived years were simply not input into their database yet... though I could be wrong. It's hard to imagine them not eventually putting everything online.

I'm off to read headlines from the late 1800s. I'm hoping for outbreaks of scurvy.

Nope, I was wrong, from the Times: "There will be charges for some material from the period 1923 to 1986, and some will be free."

Why bother?
