It looks like New Line and Peter Jackson have finally made nice, because they just announced (along with MGM) the simultaneous production of two films based on The Hobbit and other ancillary Tolkein material. (The director is still unannounced.) Make it in 3D!

It looks like Peter Jackson won't be involved with New Line's production of The Hobbit. The nerd in me mourns the loss of a director who actually cares about the source material; the cynic optimist in me is hoping that his replacement makes a subtler film with a less bombastic score (but is nevertheless dreading something even worse).

An early review of Peter Jackson's King Kong. He calls it "jaw-droppingly brilliant" -- but then again, the British *do* overuse that adjective. I still have my doubts. I loved Lord of the Rings, but felt that Jackson made it too bombastic.

Peter Jackson's King Kong, his first movie since the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will clock in at three hours in length. Doesn't he realize that the LOTR movies could be that long because of their convoluted storylines? It probably won't flop, but I sense that this will be a bloated film. I think Jackson has too many yes-men.
